Everyday Matters

I've joined a group called Everyday Matters. Everybody on there is so talented that I feel a bit overwhelmed, but even though I haven't posted yet, it seems like an amazing resource and a great supportive community. There's an accompanying book, The Creative License: Giving Yourself Permission to Be the Artist You Truly Are which I have on order from Amazon and I'm dying to get my hands on, and a series of drawing challenges which is great for someone like me, who never knows where to start.

Here's my effort for EDM #1 - "Draw a shoe". I was pretty pleased with this when it was still a pencil sketch but as soon as I started painting over it it all started looking a bit wrong. I'm not sure about the results, but this is only the second time I've ever played with Acrylics and it's all a bit strange and new.

Any comments or advice or criticism would be gratefully received!

very pretty!

If you have a scanner, something I like to do is scan my pencil sketches before I color them in. that way I can reference the pencil sketch as I'm using my colors-especially if my paint covers my pencil lines.

A neat trick with Blogger is if the person who leaves you a comment has a blue underlined name, you can click it to get their profile and to their blogs.

Fab! Keep up the good work Poppy! i'm new to bloggin/EDM too but am loving both. your words about early creativity being stifled really struck a chord - you probably know about this already but i can throughly reccomend Betty Edwards 'Drawing on the right side of the brain' and 'The artists Way' by Julia Cameron, both fantastic books to encourage one to draw and paint through those artistic 'blocks' and to deal with the doubts that assail one. Good Luck!

Poppy I am so glad you joined us at EDM. You will find that everyone inspires you so that you can't draw/paint enough. I joined about three weeks ago and it seems now I always have pencil and paper in hand.
I love your 'shoe' entry. Keep up the great work.
